First off this is a steamworks title, so all games are activated through steam (A huge plus for me, keeping my library in one place). This game runs extremely well and I must say it is very well optimized. I am playing at 1920x1080 on a GTX570 with i5-2500k and the GPU does not go above 55% usage. That's not to say there's not much going on in the game, as the graphics are beautiful and smooth at 60FPS all day. The game supports xbox 360 gamepad natively or customizable keyboard controls. I tried both and I must say since there is a ton of shooting to do, I like the kb/m combo a lot better than the 360 controller. I've read this game runs very well on laptops also that barely meet the minimum requirements. This game is straight up boss on PC and that's a testament to THQ and their Warhammer games that have been on the PC. This game is VERY satisfying in terms of what it wants to accomplish, and that is killing orcs and making it... It is much more enjoyable.I know nothing about the lore behind Warhammer 40k and was worried this game would give me so little context that I would be lost, fortunately there is enough story telling that you pretty much understand what you are (a badass) and what you are doing (being badass) and why you are doing it (for the emperor!). Titus (you, the main character) is Marcus Fenix if you sent him to Oxford, made him in his 40s and classed him up to the point that he demands respect and admiration from everyone around him. The story itself is straight forward, one of the alliance manufacturing planets (I guess everyone in the universe just makes war implements and constantly fights) is being attacked by orcs and... This game is truly amazing to play; THQ really captures the feel of being a Space Marine. As others have said, the campaign is very fun to play through, and will last you a good 10 hours on one difficulty. While the multiplayer at release was shoddy, it has improved quite a bit with after-release patches. Exterminatus mode has been added (Horde mode), and mics are no longer always-on. My only gripe is that multiplayer is still host-based; given that this didn't stop people from giving Call of Duty games raving reviews, I feel it shouldn't stop me from giving Space Marine a great review. |
