Yes, I'm a diehard! So far I have not been disappointed. First, the game plays different than Rise of the Samurai and the standard game. I found that to be in-line with the technology and political time change represented in this version of the series. The tactics applied in the earlier version games will obviously require a different approach or recalibration. Fire arms play a large role, but they can be overcome. How you many manage your clan and value tradition is key. Are the tradeoffs worth it for the long/short term? Diplomacy plays a key role and I also think embedded in your strategy is; If survival of your clan outweighs being on the right side of history or tradition. Balancing the populace acceptance of new technology is a key wrinkle in the games mechanics. I really enjoy the depth this game goes into simulating the Boshin War. They get better and better until Shogun 2. The graphics are great and the Battles are fun, but outside of that it really was a total let down. Empire and Napoleon were the best. The Campaign in this game is just too difficult. Problems ALWAYS come up even on easy difficulty. Maybe it's me, but this game just isn't fun to play campaign wise and with that it's not worth the money I paid for it. I wish I could get it back, believe me.I thought maybe with the expansion for Fall of the Samurai, it would get better. Maybe more managable. It didn't. The battles in the "Quick Battle" are fun. Especially the Naval ones, but it's not worth buying in my opinion just for that. I like the other Total War games because I like various options on nations. In Samurai it's all the same- Japanese.
