Some people are going to love this game, while others are going to hate it.CHARACTER CREATORS: 4/5 Needless to say, the graphics in this game are gorgeous. Even on low settings, the game looks amazing. The races themselves are also quite stylized. Most races have a wide variety of hairstyles, hair colors, faces, and skin colors. However, character creation can get a little confusing when you get to the "face" and "adornment" options. The "face" option allows you to select the overall facial structure of your character (baby-faced, weathered, etc.). Each face has its own specific adornments. The "adornments" option shows you more pre-made faces, which further defines the look of your character (green eyes and a scar, blue eyes and dark eye shadow, etc.). It's got a lot of complaints about certain aspects(that are irrelevant to the actual game play) but is a fantastic game. This is also my first review so be gentle!PROs: Graphics The game is downright gorgeous. There's not many other ways to describe it really. The world has both colorful, as well as darker landscapes, and it does a fantastic job of making these look absolutely phenomenal. Character models are very crisp and gorgeous as well. Even if you don't like the idea of playing the Elin race, which seem to be sprites of some sort, you just can't deny how amazing the models look compared to any other game on the market currently. You'll also notice when taking flight points that the game has an incredible sense of scale that plenty of other games have never achieved, but doesn't overdo it to the point of say, Belsavis(SWTOR). With all the hype for Guild Wars 2 and Diablo III (which I, admittedly, found myself caught up in), I never thought much about my random, spontaneous decision to download the TERA client and participate in the game's Closed Beta. The first thing that hinted that this game could be more than just an excuse to kill a few hours was the character customization. With plenty of races to choose from (including some off-the-wall ones like the cuddly, raccoon-like Popori and half animal, half nature spirit Elin), I literally spent an hour just messing around with settings and creating the perfect in-game avatar. The number of options for detailed facial tweaking was quite impressive, and I ended up with easily the favorite character I've created in an MMO. After actually entering the game world, I was struck by a few things. First, the voice-over work was pretty mediocre. Not terrible. Just mediocre. Second, the game world is... Read more |
