5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Best of RTS, By MajorGeek (Conway, AR United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Supreme Commander [Download] (Software Download) I have played a lot of RTS and Supreme Commander is in the top of them all, better than SupCom 2 because it isn't watered down in graphics and game play like it's sequel. If you enjoy RTS with truly grand scale in maps, units, and control, this is the one. It isn't made for weak computers but most better systems today should be able to handle it pretty well. One of the best features of SupCom is how you can zoom out and see the entire map quickly and zoom back in anywhere you choose, making a "mini-map" obsolete. You can also queue up orders for units to build. Want to have an Engineer build a land defense gun, then build walls around it, then move somewhere else and build a shipyard? You can. You can also decide what a factory will produce before it's finished. You can have transports automatically ferry newly-constructed units to the location of your choosing. If you have the computer power, you can have hundreds of units from small to very large pounding it out. You have... So, going backwards I got SC1 on sale. Despite what you might read on a steam forum, the DL copy keys from Amazon don't activate on Steam. So, you have to DL a free-floating game to your PC and YOU get to be responsible for hunting down patches to a 5 yr old game.Link to the patch that makes fixes the "no CD" error and make the game launch-able: [censored by amazon...] the Gas Powered Games website links to the game and eventually a patch list. (The first link on the page). Good game, if you want extra work with your leisure activity. The Gold edition that comes in a box supposedly DOES activate on steam and they handle the patches for you. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Needs to be manually patched, unlock on steam and get 2 games!, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Supreme Commander [Download] (Software Download) Really fun RTS, very epic scale some of maps get so big that it will take a normal speed land unit 20 minutes or more to go from one side to the other! Makes for alot of epic battles. You can use the product key to activate this game on steam, this will also give you the expansion Forged Alliance. This just worked for me as of 4/11/12.If you don't use steam you will need to download the patch for this game separately. Not hard to do but steam should auto-update it so that is easier. |
