This add-on gives a lot of content and redirects the flow of the game. Instead of trying to overthrow the shogun and take over Japan, you start as a on of three families that will become the future shogun. The game changes certain aspects, you still create armies and still battle on a 3D plane, but there is more politics in this version. Each city you conquer is loyal to one of the three families and you have to shift their loyalties through agents, conquering or buildings. Overall I like the shift to political loyalties but this add-on does go at a slower pace than the regular shogun. If you thought shogun was low on action you might want to skip this one. However if you love the series and you want an add on that gives you a ton of new content pick this up. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful Great campaign add-on for Shogun 2., This review is from: Total War: SHOGUN 2 DLC - Rise of The Samurai Campaign [Online Game Code] (Software Download) Creative Assembly excels at making new campaigns and this DLC is proof of that. Level 1 cities will have no walls, just a building on top of a hill. There are three families, and you play as one clan from a family (there are two clans per family, and the other clan starts out as your ally). Towns will have allegiances to various families, which you can influence, and using a new unit you can purchase the city, and it becomes yours. The agents are similar yet different from Shogun 2. There are some new, some units that are just older...
