5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended, February 16, 2011

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Matches & Matrimony. I convinced my wife to try it also, and she enjoyed it and immediately started thinking of friends she wanted to recommend it to. My 11-year old daughter also enjoyed playing it, though the reading level was a bit over her head.

My kids and I play a lot of video games, probably a couple hours each day. Most of the ones that we enjoy are either adventure games (same category as this), role-playing, or strategy. I'm concerned about how much violence and aggression is portrayed in the games my kids play, so I was very pleased to find one that was about building relationships instead of accumulating body counts,

The attributes one improves in the game is a well-conceived list of social attributes rather than the oh-so-common strength/dexterity/intelligence/health/mana schemes that are so common in gaming. They include Willpower, [artistic] Talent, Wit, Kindness, Propriety, and Sensibility. Playing the game was like a... Read more

Despite the subtitle "A Pride and Prejudice Tale", this game announces early on that it incorporates elements from "Sense and Sensibility" and "Persuasion" along with the main P&P plot. This is done in part by introducing characters from the other novels (Col. Brandon, Capt. Wentworth) and in part by making some P&P characters do double duty. Thus, Mr. Wickham is renamed "Mr. Wickeby", as he can function as Mr. Willoughby from S&S if you choose to pursue that path. Similarly, Lydia is now "Lydianne" and Mr. Bingley's first name has changed from Charles to Edward (as in Ferrars). You get to choose your character's first name, so you can play as "Evil Witch Bennet" if you like. The cast of characters from P&P has been reduced for simplicity, so don't expect to meet Mary and Kitty Bennet, the Gardiners, and several others.

The game play combines elements of a resource management game (allocating your weekdays to various activities) and a choose-your-own adventure book. These... Read more

This was quite a fun little game as you played through, attempting to find Mr. Right from a variety of options. In the meantime you spend your time earning skills like willpower, talent, propriety and kindness by visiting, going outside, studying the arts, etc. Your skill development will effect which men consider your character and hints are available to help you with the tougher ones, like Mr. Darcy.

I generally consider the downloadable games on par with a paperback in terms of value, so I was happy that this kept me occupied for several evenings, eagerly chasing my chosen matrimonial victims (haven't played all the endings yet either). If you like games with lots of action and detailed scenery, this is not for you. But if you wouldn't mind a little old fashioned Victorian-style flirting (innocent and charming) and dialogue, it's quite fun.

This is a great add-on to a great series of games, and for only $6! This add-on gives a lot of content and redirects the flow of the game. Instead of trying to overthrow the shogun and take over Japan, you start as a on of three families that will become the future shogun. The game changes certain aspects, you still create armies and still battle on a 3D plane, but there is more politics in this version. Each city you conquer is loyal to one of the three families and you have to shift their loyalties through agents, conquering or buildings. Overall I like the shift to political loyalties but this add-on does go at a slower pace than the regular shogun. If you thought shogun was low on action you might want to skip this one. However if you love the series and you want an add on that gives you a ton of new content pick this up.

      5.0 out of 5 stars Great campaign add-on for Shogun 2., January 23, 2012
This review is from: Total War: SHOGUN 2 DLC - Rise of The Samurai Campaign [Online Game Code] (Software Download)
Creative Assembly excels at making new campaigns and this DLC is proof of that. It doesn't have as much content as a fully-fledged expansion, but I would liken it to one of the campaigns from Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms.

It starts hundreds of years prior to the vanilla campaign, and that adds for an interesting dynamic. Tech trees end where the first game began (the basic techs from Shogun 2 are the late game techs in Rise of the Samurai), and units are not as advanced, and the fortresses are much more primitive. Level 1 cities will have no walls, just a building on top of a hill. There are three families, and you play as one clan from a family (there are two clans per family, and the other clan starts out as your ally). Towns will have allegiances to various families, which you can influence, and using a new unit you can purchase the city, and it becomes yours. The agents are similar yet different from Shogun 2. There are some new, some units that are just older... Read more

This isn't as visually stunning as, say, the Ravenhurst games but it has an intriguing story line and fun, challenging mini-games.

The gist: you're an agent working for Dept. 42, which investigates paranormal activity. Seven powerful artifacts have been stolen and scattered around the country, and they're wreaking havoc. You must find them, and find the source of their power, to save the world.

You'll travel through various locations -- a werewolf's lair, an Indian reservation and cemetery, a town under the power of a Voodoo sleep spell, among others -- and retrieve the artifacts. In each setting you'll encounter several rooms or settings where you'll hunt for hidden objects, using some of them to solve puzzles in the process. To obtain the paranormal artifact that's harming that location you'll have to solve a harder puzzle, though none are so difficult that you'll be pulling your hair out.

The game has a helpful hint system, although it seems to take... Read more

In Grimstone mansion a fire erupts and nine evil artifacts which had been stored there are missing. Nine evil artifacts loose in the world, creating and spreading evil. You play as Alice Wright, an agent for an organization that investigates the paranormal and your job is to find and quarantine the nine objects which are already causing havoc, as mysterious and wicked events are already occurring. Even if you're a guy you play as Alice as no male agent is offered.

As an HOG Game, Department 42 is quite complicated, requiring many steps as you unravel the mysteries. This game is excellent and the mini game puzzles are far better than average, and some of them are quite hard. You have to be a very precise clicker and you can easily miss something if you don't get your mouse aimed just right. In one location I was trying to unscrew four screws with a knife, a screwdriver not being handy. You have to attack all four screws and they don't "unscrew" so you may think like I did... Read more

After playing at least a dozen of these games, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. You are a secret agent trying to recover several important artifacts dealing with supernatural powers. The hidden object scenes are well done: clear graphics, interesting objects, hidden in a variety of ways. You will have to go back and forth between several scenes in order to complete each of the separate chapters. The puzzles are not your run of the mill, predictable types found in many of these games. I found many of them to be more challenging than others, but still doable. A couple of the puzzles required more luck than skill, which I thought was a little lame. However, because of the originality of the game and the types of puzzles I was able to overlook that. This game did have a couple of major flaws: 1) as others mentioned, the hint recharge takes a LONG time (somewhere around five minutes -- that is just insane) and 2) the dialog at the beginning of the game and each chapter was S...
