3.0 out of 5 stars Know what you're getting..., November 23, 2007

The MonsterGecko Pistol Mouse really isn't such a bad product, if you know what you're getting going in. I've read many a review where the author expresses disappointment that it's "just a mouse," and indeed, that's all it really is. You can't point into the screen with it, and you have to leave the base on your "mousing surface" in order to use it. Now that we have that out of the way, if you're willing to put up with it for a bit, the Pistol Mouse is a very usable, if altogether unnecessary bit of novelty tech.

Once retailing for as much as $70, the Pistol Mouse can be had for $10 or less these days. There is a definite learning curve when you first start to use the controller, and most people aren't used to "mousing" with your hand basically making a fist. Another cause of the learning curve is that the optical is located at the very front of the platform, which results in very different, curving movements than most people are used to using with traditional mice. Maybe I am at fault but I bought this thinking it was a "gun" that could be pointed and shoots for playing games. It however has to be used with a mouse pad and its akward trying to move around flat without lifting like that. I do think some will enjoy it but I pretty much have stopped using it after only a couple times. It is well made and a novelty type product.

Take a normal optical mouse, flatten it a little and put a plastic gun on top. Now try to move it around.

I got it for $10. It works, but after an hour I packed it up and switched back to my cordless mouse.

The "trigger" (or left mouse button) needs to be pulled back pretty far before it clicks. You can resolve this by leaving it half cocked, or not letting go of the trigger all the way. After awhile though, your finger does get tired of always being half curled.

The "safety" or right mouse button is small and easily missed. It is also only on one side, so left handed people are out of luck.

But the worst part is the amount of desktop space that this takes up. It's got a much larger footprint than a mouse. Plus not being wireless means that there is that annoying "tail" to contend with. You need free desktop space about a large as a hard cover book to use this with, and even more if you want to use it comfortably.

On the plus side, setup was a breeze. Basically just plug it in and away you go. It had a nice big fancy box and no... Read more

Great for gaming and casual typing. If you want a keyboard for just typing alone you may prefer something with Blue or Brown switches instead. These take a bit more pressure being Black Switches. Overall I am very happy but my g/f wants to destroy it because of the noise. I however ... LOVE IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent mechanical keyboard, December 16, 2010

Just wanted to point out that this Medal of Honor edition is exactly the same as the standard 6Gv2, only it comes in a Medal of Honor edition box. The keyboard has no medal of honor branding, it's just a 6Gv2. Keyboard is excellent! Switches are cherry blacks, so be sure that's what you want in a keyboard before ordering.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for driving simulations, January 25, 2001

This review is from: Microsoft A16-00029 SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel and Pedals Set (Personal Computers)
After just a short time with this wheel I couldn't imagine not having it while playing driving simluations. Even without the force feedback, having wheels and peddles brings new life to racing games. With the force feedback, games are just unbelieveable. The sensory feedback you get gives you better control over the car and the whole game just feels better. For example, in a F1 simulation the cars feel as sensitive as you would expect. You can feel the rear end sliding around if you give it too much throttle. With a regular wheel you'd have to infer this sliding from the screen, but with this wheel you just feel it. It really provides an amazing gaming experience. The force feedback is definitely worth the extra expense. The wheel is simple to hook up. Just take it out the box, and connect the peddles to the wheel with the supplied cord. Then connect it to your USB port, plug it in and and load the software. The wheel clamps tightly to the edge of a desk. The peddle base is... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Good and Bad, November 11, 2001
By
Christopher Bibbs (Detroit, MI USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Microsoft A16-00029 SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel and Pedals Set (Personal Computers)
The obvious: racing games are just more fun with wheels and pedals. If you play any racing game on a regular basis, you need to get a wheel. How does the Microsoft Force Feedback do? Here's the scoop.

First, the setup. On my Windows ME box it took four attempts to get the steering wheel to register and the configuration software to load. I get checking the USB port with my Microsoft Sidewider game pad (which works perfectly) to make sure everything was ok. When I tried to load it on my Windows 2k box, it went on the first try. I guess its a hit or miss deal, but it could be frustrating to inexperienced users.

Second, the included software. Monster Truck Madness 2 really (stinks). If you think "hey a free game, cool". Forgot about it. Really. The profile software, on the other hand, is very cool. Presets for some common games and the ability to tune things so when you switch games, you don't have to redo all of your settings.

Third the forcefeed back. It is notchy and you can... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't miss, November 19, 2000
This review is from: Microsoft A16-00029 SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel and Pedals Set (Personal Computers)
Adds an extra element to any driving game. Even Nascar2 can be fun again. Only real negatives are pedals like to move and shifter knobs should be designed a little different. Both are easily overcome.
